First Water, located in Belgrade, Montana, engineers and manufactures custom boats and accessories. Products are built tough to meet the rugged demands of anglers, hunters and adventure seekers. First Water offers a wide range of accessories and customizations that allow users to outfit their boat differently depending on the adventure.

First Water is a family owned and operated small business. A brand new manufacturing facility scheduled to open in 2019 is in the final construction stages. Capabilities will include CAD 3D design and simulation using ANSYS, vacuum infusion and compression molding of composite materials, high temperature composite curing, paint spray booth, TIG and MIG welding, light machining, and a custom woodshop.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Mechanical Engineering Technologist will work closely with a Professional Engineer to manufacture, test, and modify boats and boating accessories. The technician will also maintain manufacturing equipment and tools.

PRIMARY DUTIES
- Ensure a safe working environment is maintained.
- Conduct work ethically.
- Assist Mechanical Engineer with equipment operation, troubleshooting, testing, etc.
- Perform manufacturing regiments in accordance with written procedures, processes, and specifications.
- Provide input in the development of new products and maintenance of established products.
- Operate light machining equipment.
- Perform TIG and MIG welding.
- Operate woodworking equipment.
- Construct composite molds, layup composite structures and work with pre-preg composites.
- Prepare and paint finished boat hulls and components.
- Evaluate components and assembled units by measuring physical features and characteristics and comparing with original specifications for form, fit, and function.
- Perform other duties and general housekeeping as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Good motor coordination, finger dexterity, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering specifications.
- Reliable and professional approach to work.
- Desire to learn new techniques.
- Keen eye for detail.
- Problem solver.
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs multiple times and work standing up for 8 hours per day.
- Ability to work independently.
- Passion for boating and fishing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Will train the right individual.
- Knowledge of boat building techniques.
- Experience working with composite materials.
- Experience wood working.
- Experience working with sheet metal and light metal fabrication equipment.
- Experience TIG or MIG welding.

SALARY
$12.00-15.00/hr DOE

JOB TYPE
Intern, full time during the summer, part time during the school semester (10-20 hours per week). Flexible schedule and vacation time off.
